Global information explosion had radically reshaped the mission and methodology of intelligence organisations by the early 21st century. Researching, analysing and processing open source information are indispensable for setting up, and defining the context for secret information gathering activities.
The Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) activities NIK engages in pursuant to Section 8/A(3)d) of the Act on National Security Services involves full-scope analysis and processing of information accessible without the application of special national security systems and methods. It includes the detection and risk analysis of acts representing priority rated threats for law enforcement and national security.
In order to support the Government’s analytical and informational activities, the OSINT division of NIK continuously monitors and analyses international events and trends relevant to Hungary’s national security.
