Regulation (EU) 2018/1240 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) (ETIAS Regulation) applies to third-country nationals who are exempt from the visa requirement for intended short term stays (of a duration of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period) in one of 30 European countries.

The ETIAS will become operational as determined by the European Commission of the European Union, with the expected launch date to be published on the official website. The system will contribute to the detection, investigation and prevention of illegal migration, terrorist acts or other serious criminal offences.
